I have a Westell modem and just put in new phone wires throughout my house. My dl speed is between 1000 and 1500kbps and this is supposed to be a 3.0mb setup!

You can test your PC at SpeedGuide.net to make shure it's nothing with your PC. They also have some tweaks that might help.

If I am paying for 3.0 I better get 3.0! I do alot of downloading and playing games that connect to the net. I just changed from cable to dsl and my cable was more accurate than the dsl.

What are you using to test this download speed? download media player from the windows web site and tell me what the download speed (in kilobytes per second) is. With your connection you should get about 360kBps.

No he won't. Overhead will not let him get what his advertised speed is. 3 Mb translates to about 374 KB/s. He'll never see 360 at 3 Mb. Now rated speed, I'd think at 3 Mb he should be in the 280-300 KB range.

Media player from MS is a good suggestion. I usually use IE and FTP into Netscapes public FTP server and download something like communicator. Either choice should max your pipe, depending on the time of day. Might be a couple of times during the day they're getting hammered. I've never been slowed by Netscape however. Always an accurate test.

You get 230 KiloBytes sustained is what I assume you meant to say. That's about right. What's your point?

Yeh soz I meant kilo bytes, Iwas just saying that with a 2mbit connection I should get about 256kBs but I get 230, thats an overhead of 26kBs so 376 - 26 = about 350kBs.

Go to http://www.dslreports.com/. While there, you can do a speed test of your connection. Usually, to get optimal speed, you need to change the MRU size in the registry. If you have the DSL modem connected right to the computer, it should be easy, if you are behind a router, I am not sure if the router will have a broad range of MRU sizes. I have DSL and my advertised speed is 1500/320. I download at around 160 KB/sec. You should be getting around 300-320 KB/sec.
