Normally Cases come with standoffs.
USE them, a few have learned a costly lesson when they did not use the standoffs as they watched their MB fry and /or blown their PSU.

Yes, the back side of the motherboard has exposed metal/solder that will short out the board if you just sit it on a metal surface. Cases should come with standoffs, though i have had one where they forgot to put them all in. They definitely are necessary. Some MBs also ground through them, so you want metal standoffs and screws, but only in the designated holes.
