How to install ide to sata adapter?

I have a ide hard drive and sata motherboard. I bought the adapter.

Do I still hook up the power cord to the hard drive and set it to slave? Or do I just use the adapter and keep the hard drive on master or what not?

This would be a secondary hard drive

Attach the power cord. Set the HDD to master.

SATA only has one HDD per port (channel) - IDE/PATA allows two HDDs per cable.
