I realize I may open up a can of worms with this question but here it goes. I have just put together a new gaming/work computer and now I think it would be nice to get a new monitor.

I am wondering what monitor people would recommend? I was also thinking of maybe just buying a small HDTV that has a computer input for my monitor. What are peoples experience and what specific monitor do you recommend?

I have an i7 computer with Vista 64 bit and a GTX 260 video card. I will do e-mail, MS word, MS Excell, and games such as Comand and Conquer, COD, and Company of Hereos. I would prefer a 22"-24" monitor and cant really go alot bigger. We will watch some TV on it but mainly it will be used for computer related things.

Thanks for the help.

I'm on a HDTV, but the text doesn't look as crisp & sharp on a monitor. It's a trade-off. Another thing is the vertical space is less since it's 16:9. I play & watch videos more than work on PC so HDTV for me. On HDTV, PC gaming feels like console gaming cuz most everyone play consoles on TV.

Do you play or work more on pc?

Thanks for the information I honestly play and work on it about 50/50. My wife only works or surfs the internet on it. I was kind of leaning for the HDTV thing but I am now looking more seriously at the monitor thing from your information. There seems to be 3 models I am kind of leaning too. Any other thoughts?

dell makes a 2.35mp 23" monitor on the cheap if you'd like that since it has a higher pixel count than those monitors.

it's 16:9 too but it only has 48 pixels less on the vertical than standard 2.3mp monitors.

If I have to pick one out of the 3 you selected, it'll be ASUS for the larger screen at a good price. Trust me, you'll always want a bigger screen, not smaller. The Sammy is great quality, but it's not 1080. If you watch movies on non-1080 resolution, there'll be 2 black bars at the top & bottom. That's one reason I switched to HDTV. Mind you, my old LCD was widescreen.

As for contrast ratios, I think they're exaggerated. My HDTV has dynamic 9000:1, but the screen dims when most of the screen is dark. It's auto. No choice. On high-end HDTVs, there's an option to switch it off.

Oh yea, your wife will appreciate the monitor.

Thanks for the help everyone. Hopefully, I will make a decision soon. My biggest problem is convincing my wife that we need it. It may be easier to do the HDTV route for that decision with her but we will have to see.
