I know many will disagree with me. But I have found Crysis to run smother than other games. For me personally I need 40fps in a fast moving car racing came (such as Grid), 35fps in Call of Duty at a minimum, 20fps minimum in fsx; as you can see different games are playable with different frame rates.
However for Crysis I need a minimum of 25 frames to be playable and 30 frames best!
Yes rags_20 I find that when you have anything less than 35-40fps in call of duty I see parts where an image will jump from one to the other with no transition. If you know what I mean. It is kind off annoying. But I do not notice it after 40fps.
However if you can play crysis on high with over 25fps you can get more than 50fps in call of duty. I never have a problem in call of duty always get really high fps.
All games are different. Generally, youd want higher fps in FPS games, but not always, tho more is always better to a point. Crysis is much like Oblivion, where a 25 fps minimum is doable, but 30 is perfect.
Most RPGs have lower fps requirements, unlike shooters. It all depends, and a good question by the OP

If you are specking a machine by looking at reviews of cards and trying to work out a bottom line on teh GPU just be aware that you can loose 10% for a start as the reviewers use stupidly high spec CPU's which will give the GPU extra resourses to play with, this translates into higher FPS (obviously) Also its worth checking if you are looking at minimum or maximum or average FPS in the results.
You want to be looking at minimum really as far as specking a PC goes as its worse case performance, remember the CPU though.
Something that gives Average 35-45 max 45 upwards and minimum 25 but that really is minimum 30 for personal preferance.
Mactronix
mactronix you do have a point. But I usually find to be able to get at least 10% more than the bench markers get, not less. This is just due to tweaking and overclocking my computer components.
Gotta get that extra performance where you can right Lots of people just make do with stock settings when tweaking the bowls of a GPU's settings can yeild untold performance and quality benefits.
Yes it is true that 97% of everyone I know does not have the time or know how to tweak there pc. I bet most people do not even know you can. Even a lot of custom computer builders will not go the extra mile.
I was actually surprised when I got my 4850 and started playing Warhead. 25fps in Very High 0xAA 0xAF with a stock Q6600 and C6 RAM. I find that my ATI is a little unstable even if I OC a little bit, so I just run it at stock.

Biggest thing you can take away from these opinions is that everyone has different views on what is acceptable/good framerate. Pretty much, it seems that 30fps in Crysis is good, but if you have super-high needs, you might still want 50+ fps.

Damn right guys...my AMD 4400+ plays everything iv thrown at it even GTA iv at way more than acceptable pace...albeit iv not tried crysis mainly because i dislike the game...its not my kind of game
Understanding your operating system and your system itself is a deadly combination....my 6000+ and XP 64 bit for example
Its sad when you can recite regedit tweaks by memory
My mean FPS is 28 FPS running on enthusiast ( Except the texture object thing setting which requires DX10 ) in Crysis Warhead. When I'm just driving around fps jumps around 30 - 35, but in heavy battles it can drop untill 20 fps ( ! )... Still very playable though in my opinion, as long it's not all the way below 25 fps.
Playing Crysis on Very high, no Idea never tried it.
