Is i5 m/b with ddr2/dual-channel/1333MHz or ddr3/tri-channel/4.8GT? Would it be worthwhile to upgrade from C2Q to i5 if i5 m/b is with ddr2/dual-channel/1333MHz? Thanks

i5 is DDR3 and uses LGA1156 not LGA775 so you'll need a new motherboard and RAM. As to whether it's a worthwhile upgrade or not, that depends what you plan to do with the system.

How about the FSB and no. of channels? Is it worthwhile if what I do with PCs are just gaming, internet and movies?

LGA1156 doesn't have an FSB, same as LGA1366. It only uses dual-channel but for quad cores it makes no noticeable difference (more bandwidth is available than can be utilised with tri-channel).

For those tasks there is really no reason to upgrade. Save for a new video card or find a more CPU intensive task to do. :D

Actually, I am still with a P4 now. Should I get C2Q now or wait half a year for the i5? Thank you!

There's little reason to buy LGA775 now, you'd be better off with AM3 or LGA1156 because they're not complete dead-ends yet.

Could you also tell me whether the CPU fan of LGA1366 will work on the LGA1156?

BTW, is $199 for the i7-920 at Microcenter tax inclusive?

Thank you!

I don't know if they use the same heatsinks, and I don't live in the US so I can't answer that either ;)

It's fine. No worries and thanks.

It"s a different socket design, the push pin holes don't line up on 1366 and 1156.

Then I won't get a new CPU fan now . Thanks for the info!

well the Zalman CNPS10X has LGA1156, LGA1366 and LGA775 mounts so you could buy that.

also FSB is obsolete, and has been for nearly a year now.

This is a forum, man. Forum is for people to help one another with the information they know, whereas, others don't and therefore a lot of time can be saved for other thing.

There's no reason for peoples to spend a lot of time searching the same information that others had already spent a lot of time on and know well!

BTW, I am more than happy to give any information I know to anyone who might need it as well.

This way, noobs will become pros more quickly and easily and hence questions will be solved faster and faster in the future.

That's what forum's for, isn't it?
