Hello,
Can i power up my external hard disk with usb-dc converter cable instead of using an adapter...will it affect my laptop..

Solution
A standard USB port is current limited to 500mA @ 5V. This will limit you to 2.5" drives or smaller. I haven't seen a "USB-DC" converter, but you may need to pick up power from two USB ports if a single port cannot supply the additional current (eg 850mA for Seagate Momentus) during spinup.
