So im going off to college next year and i need a tv and of course my monitor for my pc. So my mom bought me a 720p HDTV to use as both. Its a 26" LG with 30,000:1 ratio, and 2hdmi ports. So i wanna use it with my 9800GTX. I have a DVI to HDMI converter and it works except when i set it to go for a 720HDTV it just looks like ***. So i went from a 22" 1680x1050 monitor to a 26" 1280x720 hdtv. The quality blows, and i cannot get sound to work though a fiber optic cord or though any other way. So should i return the TV and get a 1080 so i have higher resolution and maybe not be as bad? The tv does have a PC input but its RGB and im pretty sure my quality from a 9800gtx will be limited with that. Any suggestions?

Oh gosh what is it that causes the quality to look like ass when ran via hdmi?...i can't remember but it happens whenever i try to use hdmi as well...just run it on rgb man as you won't tell the difference

And in my opinion stay with the 26" as the resolution is much more suited for gaming on the 9800gtx+...no reason to go to a higher resolution(a higher p if you will) as it just requires more gpu power....

And as long as you can stand the resolution and size of the screen for extended college work just stay with it for that as well...

I just thought that a tv of this high of quality would look better even if the resoution is this low, i mean i like it but i think im going to go back, return this tv, and get a 25.5" with 1080i that i saw and was cheaper.

1080i is the same as 720p. You will have a hard time finding a 26" TV with 1080p. Smaller HDTV's usually don't require 1080p because the picture gets "scrunched" anyways.

You could always get a 25.5 inch monitor with 1080p resolution and just drop a TV card in to your computer.

At that resolution you'll have to start turning down the eye candy on new games with the video card though. Also, RGB is just as good as HDMI. Some 1080p TVs don't have the ability to run full 1080p through RGB though, but it's a limitation of the TV not the RGB.

Thanks for the backup on hdmi vs rgb

And yes 720p is the same as 1080i and imo and i have 5 HDTVs of varying progressive and interlaced resolutions i find the 720p looks ALOT better than 1080i...stick with your current tv...or get your 22" back

Also if you meant that when you try to game on it that it looks bad make sure your aspect ration and resolution is right and that your on rgb....if not its user error 100%

TBH your tv is no quality better than a standard monitor...1080p is just a resolution....its not like a tv is some super high quality thing now....
