What is max memory capacity of dell otp406 (room for 4 sticks) with 64bit vista home premium and windows 7?
I presently have 4gig, and I believe this can be increased to 8gig, but will it take 16gig that is 4x4 @800 MHz

Without the specs for the Dell mobo and the version of BIOS available to you, there's no real way to tell.

Googling "dell otp406" shows that this question has been asked and answered in many different ways, none definitive. Try that, too.

Ask Dell.

Which is the model of the PC?, In the web page of dell you can find this information with the service tag of the rig.

That is the point - can't get specs as this is a propriety dell product. The bios is the most current ao7.

Tell Dell you want to upgrade memory from them. Find out what they will sell you, and ask them for a price. That will tell you whether more memory will work.

NP. I'm sure you can appreciate we'd only be guessing.

You could also try posting in the Dell User forums about your mobo AND your BIOS revision and asking for anyone who has installed more memory successfully. But it seems their forums have been more watered down than usual lately as more folks build their own.

Thanks. Iwill try dell user forum, but I don't expect much since there appear to be virtually no questions re xps 420 platforms, and those that are refer to the older quad 6 series processor.

Unfortunately, dells web page uses existing/original configuration, whereas I am looking ahead to change my 32 bit os to 64 bit as well as possibly the os to windows 7.
