When? They said July.....they better hurry or I'm gonna buy a X4 955.....
Seriously, anybody heard anything new?
I thought since the Intel price drop yesterday, that was a sign they would release this week!
Actually, September 6 is the date the first i5 2.66GHz will launch. http://www.fudzilla.com/content/view/14769/1/
But I'm wondering when the P55 mobos will be out? And now I have that I know the price for this processor, I'm not sure if I should go with the $199 i7 at Microcenter.com or wait for the i5. They're about the same price and same speed but maybe the P55 boards will be cheaper.
i7 will still be server/workstation driven so lower wattage/ high power solutions will still be around for some time. i5 is interesting though and the platforms should be more affordable. cant sneeze at a 955 x4 though. i dont predict any break neck departure from core2 performance with the i5.

Show me a 920 at microcenter for $199. I cant even find a i7 920 on their website. I click processors and only 4 processors come up. What a joke.
I read that article, what is Intel smoking? Theres i7 on s1366 with triple channel memory, then theres gonna be i7's on s1156 with dual channel memory and then i5's with dual channel memory. Makes no sense whatsoever.
Likely so they can bend more people over on overpriced X58 sales. Not me.
Well they're keeping the i7 920 until Q2 2010 at least according to roadmaps, but the 960 coming out in Q4 is tempting.

For $600, no thanks. Plus $200 for a mobo and then triple channel memory.
You could build three X4 955 systems for the price of one of those with motherboard and memory.
Debating on whether or not I should wait for the price on the i7s to come down everywhere or just buy now. Do you guys think that $199 price will stay when the i5s actually come out?
Intel doesnt cut prices on processor till they been out a year or so, even then sometimes not.
I mean look at the Q6600, its the same price it was a year and a half ago.
^ yes, but with the Q6600 the price started a lot higher than what it is now.
Screw it, I just bought a Q6700 8MB cache for $175.
I'm gonna overclock it and wait for the Octo-cores next year or maybe a 32nm quad.

You'll be selling it as soon as the I5's come out.
Are they still planning a Dual core I5 with 4HT's?

Yeah, same problem. You have to type in a zip code and then do a search on that store's inventory. That's how I found something like 279 of them at my local Microcenter last month. Basically they don't encourage online sales since I believe this is a loss-leader price for them - they hope to snag you on the mobo, memory, etc. as well.

Crying that you cant afford i7 now means when octo cores are out you cant afford it either.

Agreed. If you can't pony up alittle over a grand for a badass budget I7 setup then maybe you should just go amd and stop whining.
You've just gotta love being in the i7 club
They got pushed back to september for a few reasons. First of all they need to clear out existing inventory of Core 2s. If they released the LGA1156 CPUs now they would have to sell the Core 2 Duos and Quads for less which means less money for ol Intel. Instead, they are trying to clear them out while getting as much as they can for them. Second, AMD can't really threaten them into pushing the i5 out sooner. Since Core 2s are still holding their own against the Phenom II (unlike how the P4 was getting clobbered by the Athlon 64), Intel is in no rush.

Choose Santa Clara (that's where I live) and you'll see the number of processors available.
I started a thread asking for opinions regarding these two processors a while back as well.

Uhm, it is at $199, just like the Q9550 is at $169 currently. I get their e-flier and it was advertised there. You can Google it and still see threads about it. People said you'd better run, not walk to one and get it. Also, you need to let your fingers do the walking on their Online catalog from their website. Here, I found that Q9550 deal that way. See if NewEgg can beat this:

The joke's on you.
(edit: looks like someone beat me above to the i7 link)
We need a microcenter in phoenix
Tustin, CA Microcenter has 250 i7 920's in stock currently at $199. Picked up a Q9550 EO retail box for $169 last week. Also had the AMD PII 940 for $149. I drive to the store in 7-10 minuytes from my house or office. Giggles at Newegg.
Anyone know how many threads the i5 quads are going to support? I've read various unconfirmed posts 4 or 8 but nothing definitive.
daship wrote : Crying that you cant afford i7 now means when octo cores are out you cant afford it either.
I could afford 10 i7's if I wanted. I just dont pay top dollar for something I dont need. Just spend $5,000 on a ring for my girl.

Ok fanboy. If I wanted to get bent over by Intel I would go ahead and do it. I'll leave it to you guys who are stupid enough to spend $600-700 just for a mobo, cpu, and ram so you can brag on Tom's hardware because you have no life.

Cry for us.
Enjoy your garbage amd system

Why do you say that? Actually now I'm gonna skip the whole i5/i7 generation. I'll be good for another 2 years easy.
PsychoSaysDie wrote : Cry for us.
Last I checked AMD doesn't make Q6700's fanboy.
sdf wrote : Anyone know how many threads the i5 quads are going to support? I've read various unconfirmed posts 4 or 8 but nothing definitive.
I think they all support HT except the cheapest one.
The only i5 Lynnfield is the non HT quad, the rest of the Lynnfields are i7s, and have HT, or 8 threads. So , basically, i7s have 8threads, i5s have 4, whether its a quad without HT, or duals that have HT and have 4 threads
I keep thinking of Lynnfield whenever I see i5, even though most of the Lynnfield chips aren't i5.
I hate them making Lynnfields i7s, as I really like i5, i7? Not so much
^ I think it's a marketing trick.
I do as well. If they can pull up the Lynnfields, it gives i7 credence overall, but they arent the same arch, nor do they use the same skt. It supposedly gives buyers more options, dunno why, if they were i5s, theyd still be for sale?
No, its Intels options, being able to squeeze out a lil more money being that the HT Lynnfields are now officially "i7s", and bring a price premium with that name, no matter how small
I'm going to laugh when people buy triple-channel memory kits that say on the packaging "For Intel Core i7" and they bought a Lynnfield.
I know where they may put that third stick....Oh Paulllll
I just wish the people that promote microcenter would include the fact that many of their deals are "in store pick up ONLY!" It may be great for someone driving 10 or 15 minutes, but what about those of us having to drive 5- 6 hours...... or longer.
The gas money is the difference in cost by that point
Enough of the name calling.

Hi Psychosaysdie.... I have an AMD system and it rocks. You know why i have a AMD system Psycho? Because thats what i can afford.
Back to the topic anyone???
