I am upgrading my system so I wish to get a good videocard with a good price.

I have seen some good review about ATI HD 4770 and its price (about 90 eurs) is great.

With new BIOS 3.15a, my motherboard supports HD 4850, but I don't know if it will support 4770...

Does anyone know if Asrock 775 VSTA supports ATI HD 4770? If so, are there any issues (freezing, bad textures,...)?

Thanks a lot in advance for your help!

Regardless of bios, your mobo will take any PCI-E video card.

The PCI-E slot on that mobo only runs at 4X electrical, you will get bottlenecking with high end cards.

Yeah, that's true. I have read about it, but it seems that performance loose is not very hard (as I have read on some reviews)... I have no experience with it, so I hope to be able to run some actual games... Do you think I will loose so much performance with this bottleneck?

Mmm, as well, it seems that not every PCIe card runs well on this motherboard. For example, the last 3.15a mod BIOS added support for ATI HD 4850...

No it wont. These boards hav ehad several Bios updates specifically for GPU compatability issues.

Take a look here http://forum.micromart.co.uk/Topic173777-19-1.aspx What these guys dont know about those boards isnt worth knowing

The bottlenecking will be there but it wont be as bad as some would have you beleive. Especially with ATI cards as they use the Bandwidth really well. Just recently the Nvidia cards have been doing well with it also but im not sure if thats down to drivers or not.

Thanks a lot for your help. It seems that AGP and PCIe on this board are almost the same... :(. I hope that what really matters on the system performance IS the card and not only the this 4x PCIe bus...

Let's see if someone knows if 775 VSTA is compatible with HD 4770... There is a good possibility because IS compatible with HD 4850, but ...

I dont beleive there is any official support for GPU's beyond the 3850 as far as these boards go.
If you can tell me which model EXACTLY Very important to get it right, i will check on the other forum i linked you to to see if there are any modded third party Bios releases for this yet. People have used these bios releases to run 4850's on the 775 vsta.
Or if you want you can link back over and join and ask yourself, there is a thread going at the moment thats on the same subject. http://forum.micromart.co.uk/Topic349032-19-1.aspx

Oh! Thanks a lot for that link. I will try to ask there if someone knows about the compatibilty.

I flashed my BIOS with 3.15a modded bios from that german page this weekend in order to get 4GB running with this mobo...

The mobo model is 775Dual-VSTA exactly.

Hi again schn3id3r

I have spoken to Slipstreem and we thought it best to let me contact you on this forum incase the other OP got confused with posts being made for differant BIOSes on the same thread. Obviously if either of you ended up using the wrong BIOS that would be really bad :??:

Basically that german site is the best place for modded BIOSes. We havent heard of anyone using a 4770 on your board yet and best be is to keep checking with the Pc Treiber site. They have a 3.17 BIOS now but still dont list 4770 support and are unsure about 4890 support. It should work i think for the 4890 but the 4770 is still guess work im afraid.
Im not sure if its just an ID number not included in the driver set but ATI dont even have official Driver support for the card yet.

So you can either wait for reports of the card working or try it yourself if you are feeling brave.

Good luck and do let me know when/if it does work so we can pass the knowledge on and i will do like wise.

First I've heard of a mobo that only runs certain PCI-E graphics cards, I guess thats what you get when you buy a mobo with a VIA chipset.

So why did you post this then

" Regardless of bios, your mobo will take any PCI-E video card." ?
