Hi i was wondering whether it was possible to fry a motherboard without damaging other peripheral such as hard disk......or is it possible that by static alone the mobo may be made unusable while not affecting the hard disk cd-rom etc

You need to give more info about your situation. I always do a bare bones test on a phonebook out of the case to start diagnostics for a motherboard no post problem.

u could do a BIOS update, and then unplug the pc in the middle of the update, and then the pc will never boot again... that could be a option , that u could try...
