Sorry, it seems Nvidia have some kind of blind spot for the US when it comes to the GTX295.
Do you have any friends or relatives in the millitary? Perhaps they can send you one from elsewhere.
I am not bragging or trying to be a pain here but we have loads of them here in the UK, perhaps with the Pound so weak you could import one from here or Europe?
I'm not sure you will see any more 295's release. It seems to me it was a quick release card to take teh single slot crown for a bit. There were rumors of them cutting off production until they come out with a single pcb design (given how long it has been they may reserve that for the 395 if it ever comes to be). If you need that level of performance in a single slot, the 4870x2 is close and much cheeper. I would be happier with two 285/275/4890's though.
260's are probably the best value as far as nvidia goes.. though I'm not sure what current pricing is like. They perform almsot identical to 4870's, though crossfire scales better on i7's it seems.
What about the 275? Is it a sizable upgrade from the 260?
Man...my head is just spinning. All I want is a good card that will hold me over for a year until I get one of Nvidia's next series of cards. Sure, it can't be too expensive since it is only a rather temporary card, but I want it to run anything I'll throw at it. I'm not one of those crazy benchmarkers; I just want to play games maxed out at 1920X1080 resolution.
The Egg has GTX260 for under $160 which is actually a little cheaper than the 1Gb HD4870.
Obviously, either will need plenty of power and a well ventilated case with 10.5" of space in which to install them.
For a years worth of gaming I would question the cost of a dual card soloution given the massive power of the cards in question.
rather get an SLI GTX 260+ something something than a GTX295, the gtx295 doesent support SLI, so your at a fault when it comes to games that do support SLI, the gtx260 is a good deal at the moment when SLI'd
