I am in the process of building a PC with an i7 920. I allready have one GTX 9800 + should buy another and run SLI or would I be better off just running 1 GTX 260? Or can you suggest a better card to run by itself? I am running 1600X1050 resolution.
If you already have 1 GTX 9800 then it is cheaper and better to buy another and run them in SLI. You should get better performance with the 2 cards in SLI rather than having a single GTX 260.
It is also worth pointing out if you compare the speed of the cards with the amount of power they consume, a single GTX 260 will come out on top. However for overall performance the 2 cards in SLI will be better.

You're better off selling your 9800 GTX+ and replacing it with a GTX 260. No worries about PSU having enough juice, no worries about overheating the GPUs, no loud whining from dual fan noise.
I have/had two 9800GTXs in SLi, and I can tell you that they worked perfectly. I was easily able to play Crysis on VH, AA at x6.
They are not loud at all, both cards remained below 65'C (their combined power ensured that they weren't stressed in any game except Crysis), and they only need 18amps each...so a good 650watt PSU can run two in SLi.
I'd go with 260, 9800GTX+ should outperform the single 260 for the most part at that reoslution but a single 260 should do quite admeriablly in most games and be quite satifiying.
Just cuz lower power requirements/monthly bill
quieter

Thanks for the info. I will keep all of it in mind.
Btw, just so you know. Two 9800GTXs will wipe the floor with a single GTX260 at nearly every resolution and every graphical setting for nearly every game.

9800GTX = 1
2x9800GTX = 1.8
GTX260 = 1.2
I am going with the Two 9800 GTX +!!!! Thanks for your suggestion!

Your motherboard and PSU will run two 9800GTX+'s perfectly. All you need to do is plug each one into a PCI-E x16 slot on the motherboard, hook them up to the PSU using the correct cables and you may need to connect the 2 cards together using an SLI cable.
850PSU is more than enough. Your PSU can actually probably SLi 3 of them if your mobo is triple Sli compatible.
Anyways, 2x9800GTXs is more than enough to hold you for a couple years until you're ready to upgrade to "matured" DX11 cards. (the first line of DX11s will probably be buggy/not that great)

Your mobo came with SLi brackets, right?
Yes my MOBO is 3 SLI ready. Yes it has 2-way and 3-way brackets for SLI.
What do i need to do to run the 9800 gtx+ sli. I have a 850w PSU is that enough power to run everything and SLI?
Really simple, Plug the other 9800GTX+ into the second PCIe x16 slot, connect all the power cords and place the SLi bridge on the cards, start up windows and go into the nVidia control panel, look for the "SLi" tab (or similarly named) and turn it on. Basically plug it in and turn it on.

i'd go with the SLI setup. you might end up using more power but i dont think it will matter too much and getting another 9800GTX+ will be cheaper than a GTX260
