SATA II in a SATA III port

I am building a new PC and the MB has 6 SATA II ports and 2 SATA III. If I use up all the SATA II ports, can I plug and SATA II device into an SATA III port? I don't expect higher speeds or anything, just want to make sure the device will function ok.
