Hey, so i've been having problems installing the drivers for my 9800 pro.
Windows automatically detected and installed generic drivers for the card. Each time I try to uninstall the drivers, when the comp restarts the generic drivers are there again.

I have tried to install the ati drivers too, but they are not working properly, because there is no direct 3d acceleration in the dxdiag tool.

Oh, and my motherboards default graphics device is AGP, and there are no onboard graphics.
This is right after a reformat, so there is literally nothing on the machine except for windows.
What can I do to properly install these drivers?

You cannot uninstall the generic drivers as they part of the OS. If you were to remove them, then as soon as you get into Windows nothing will be displayed on the screen since there would not be any drivers for the video card to send info to the monitor. Kinda makes it difficult to know what you are doing if there is a blank screen.

Install the drivers from the CD that came with your 9800 Pro. ATI has officially dropped support for all video cards older than the HD 2xxx series. While current Catalyst drivers will work with older card, they are not optimized for those cards and you may see a drop in performance as a result.

You can go over to Guru3d and download older driver versions that support the 9800 Pro. You can also try using the Omega Drivers. Anyway to uninstall them you should boot into safe mode and uninstall them via the device manager. When you reboot windows will ask to install the drivers automatically. Click cancel. Once you get past that then install the proper drivers and you should be good to go.
