So I have some Arctic MX 2 left over from my build and I was wondering if it would be worth it to use some on the GPU as well. I'm not really going to play games but I would be interested in lower temps just to lower the temps in the case (I am overclocking the processor) I have the ASUS 4850 with the stock (Glaciator) heatsink/fan.

I have a Sapphire 4850 with the Dual Slot cooler. I did not bother with the stock thermal compound. I stripped it off, and applied MX-2.

I can tell you what my current temps are:

Idle:
GPU: 29 C GPU Memory: 31 C Shader: 29 C

Load (max)
GPU: 50 C GPU Memory: 52 C Shader: 50 C

I am using Everest Ultimate 4.6 for temp reading.

Hmm, those temps seem like it might be worth it.

I have an additional 80 mm fan feeding cold air into the card's stock cooler which is pictured below:

Also, when I am doing simple 2D tasks, the card automatically underclocks to 160 MHz GPU and 250 MHz Memory.

No it would not be worth it. Not to mention it will probably void the warranty and you may damage the card trying to get the old heatsink/s off.
The manufacturer uses good thermal compound.
