I finally got around to playing some MP3 files on my new Dell Axim x30i
today. I was very disappointed. Either the player has no equalizer, I don't
know how to find it or my earbuds are pathetic. Even though it was stereo,
the sound quality was on par with AM radio about 30 years ago.
Is there any help out there for this type of issue?

what quality was the file ripped at and was it down converted by WMP on your
desktop when you transferred it?
BTW, AM now isn't much better than it was 30 years ago.... not that i would
know since i'm only 30, but the tech behind it hasn't changed. only the power
and the abilities of a reciever.

Well, WMP on pocket PC is known not to do a great job of playing MP3s
vs native WM Audio files so it's not a big surprise. What is tricky is
that you are describing it as AM sound quality - what does the
subjective term mean to you ? Muffled treble ? Poor bass ? Bad
midrange on voice content ?
One thing to consider is betaplayer, which does have an equaliser to
potentially compensate for your ear buds (and the axim sound system's)
poor performance : http://betaplayer.corecodec.org/download.html
Grab the 0.096 "unstable" don't be put off, it's perfectly stable.
Once you have that it's highly likely you won't need any further media
players on the machine and as it's quite lightweight (~900k) it's a
no-brainer.
