I do plenty of video encoding especially in HD format and quality. i have read about Badaboom software that take advantages of Nvidia GFX cards, especially the latest GTX200 series.

I also have read about the encoding software for ATI cards, while it's faster then badaboom ( depends which card u are using of course) but the quality of results of the encoded videos are inferior.

From what i read from many articles around the net is that ATI is still behind in this area compared to nvidia. is this true? please share your experiences and let me know if i have to go with GTX200 or 48xx series.

AS of right now Nvidia has a better encoding capabilities using badaboom over ATI's avivo.
Avivo is free while you have to pay for badaboom. So I guess it's you get what you pay for.
ATI is working on improving their encoding capability so hopefully will see some improvements in AVIVO soon.

And if I remember the (Toms?) article correctly, neither one is ready for showtime. Just get the nice quad core CPU and use normal programs. The i7 is a monster for this type of work, you should be able to get an i7 system for $800 now.
