When I try to open windows xp it just says windows has encountered a problem

Hello,
what can be wrong with my pc? Itstarts up properly and lets me go on the internet but when I try to open office or my pictures or anything else I firstly get a message saying windows has encountered a problem and then I get Dr Watson postmortem debugger?I am operating xp

If you haven't made recent software / hardware changes, it is possible that doing a system restore to a date prior to when your error started happening may fix it.

It is also possible your computer has become infected with virus / malware, so do some scans with your Anti Virus APP. Also, give Malwarebytes Antimalware a go. They have a Free Scanner which you can try that is quite effective.
