i am curently having i7 950 D0 and its overcloked to 4 ghz HT on @ 1.35v in bios and idle temps are 46C and prime 95 blend test for 2 hours temps were 78-82C.my cpu cooler is thermalright 120 extreme with 2 fans.so is this temps normal and my room temp is curently is 28-29C because its hot today in germany.

and why i7 920 is better then i7 950 ???????? offcourse 920 is half the price of 950 but still what is the main difference??????????????

errrrr, i7 920 is the same thing as the 950, just that 950 is binned slightly better with a faster guaranteed speed, the difference between the two is too small in that every chip they produce can reach at least 950 if not the extreme edition's speeds with no effort. At half the price, most people takes that chance. The only reason for more expensive stuff is you have some critical items like a server for a bank or something that can't afford even one little mistake. For regular gaming, who gives a crap about that.

and more question marks don't make responses come faster.

try linx (not linux please dont confuse....) with full load testing, also use reltemp, they have correctly set TJMax for i7s.

as long as it stays under 85 C and you are not loading it 24/7 (aka folding) then you should be fine.

for folding or 24/7 always on full load, then 70 is best bet, if not lower.

and bumping isn't really needed for a slow azz forum like toms lol, if it gets to the third or second page then maybe.

seems okay, not too bad, but again bios temps isn't that accurate as mobos can and do weird things.

FYI, mine at 1.33 also at 4 Ghz reports Linx 85 on all cores (87 if i leave it for a long time) and i left it since I don't 24/7 Load mine.

yeah then it should be fine, mine are higher even at times, and it should work

but tbh, i7s are kinda new, its limits (thermal and electrical) for 24/7 isn't really tapered out, staying below 85 C should be a good place to go or 70 C if you are careful. But if I want 70 C i would need to drop that OC to a 3.4 or 3.5, which I may do since all this horse power is not being used by me properly lol

yeah, although depending on what you do, OCing at that high of temps may not be all that useful, I mean i game with wow, I play with ESX server, I do a little bit of this and that and the highest I've seen it go without a bench is like 60 C under load for hours in counter strike..... (which only loads 2 core with 1 at high 90%)
