Here is what I have decided on so far. Trying to keep it cool and quite. Any other suggestions or modifications?

Looks decent. XFX also sells HD 4870s with LIFETIME warranty. May worth the extra bucks.

Nice build, i dont think your going to need a full 1000w on 2 4870's.

mabye on 2 gtx 285's but, not on 4870's.

Get a 850tx Corsair instead.


Wheres the Motherboard? If you don't know yet.

Asus P6T Deluxe v2 is at its best.

Thanks for the suggestions so far guys.

I know I don't need the 1000w yet but I probably will later so just figured I would get it now and save the hassle of upgrading down the road.

I'm planning on getting the Asus P6T board right now. I was looking at the Deluxe V2 but couldn't really figure out what the difference is and why I should get that instead. The layout of the stock Asus P6T seemed better.

But IDK, why should I get the Deluxe V2 over the regular Asus P6T?

The deluxe V2 has more stability for a reliable Overclock. Im sure since your building a rig, your going to decide to overclock this beast or you wouldnt be looking at a V8 cooler.

Nice build
I am in same boat but I am just not sure if that HX1000 will fit into that case, else I would go for it for same reason.
What I know so far, 2 GTX285 in SLI is a decent combo out there at the moment.

Also perhaps OCZ Platinum XTC DDR3 1600MHz 6GB (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit rams instead. I’ve got those preferred in my case.

Also take a look at the Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 CPU cooler. It’s doing pretty well out there and is pretty quiet too.

Funny that you bring that up because I just ordered the Corsair HX1000, it better fit. I'll let you know in a few days.

I also just switched my preference to the OCZ Platinum XTC 1600MHz 6GB instead...I'm going to order that tomorrow probably. I'll see how the 6GB plays out and maybe through in another 6GB of the same later.

I like the Noctua but love the look of the V8 even though I know it is overkill for what I do.

As far as the GTX285's go I do really like them in SLI but still worried about their noise and temps. Maybe if they drop in price I'll consider picking them up.

Well If you can get your eyes away from that cooler ( :love: ) then go for it. IMO I think you still get a very good cooler. Just I can't really stand the fan color on the Noctua but that's another story :lol:

The NVidia cards might actually be cooler than even those vapo-X 4870s, but I don't really know about quieter. They will however also not be as good value as those 4870 at the price you are paying - almost 2 4870s per GTX 285! (Remember that a mail-in-rebate will only cover one card in most cases though)

actually you are right - that is one cool running 4870!

One question - what kind of screen will be receiving the feed from this brawler of a system - hope its a huge hi res setup so you get your money's worth and can really enjoy all that power

Ok so I got my Corsair 1000w power supply and it fits beautifully into my Antec nine hundred two!

I've also made a few changes. I think I'm going to go with the:

Asus Rampage II Extreme for my motherboard

Plus I'm getting a bit different memory with:

OCZ Platinum 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit.


Building this thing is too much fun!

Got Asus p6t del v2 ... its awesome

easy overclock http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/252148-29-asus-core

that ram is running really well atm... havent even pushed it at all yet and going decent

PSU seems like overkill there but its future proof for awhile.

grab another HD for raid if you want...
