Motherboard problem

hi can you help me please ,,, i,m haveing problems starting my pc , what happens is when you turn it on it powers up for about 5 seconds then switches off ,, i still have a power light on the motherboard showing green , so i guess the psu is ok , there was,nt any hdd in it or memory when i got it ... if i keep turning the power on and off the same happens on for a few seconds then nothing ,,,, would you say this is a motherboard problem ??????? motherboard is a asus A7V8X-MXSE.....

Was it running and then stopped? or has it never run for you?
