4770 x2 Xfire

I'm planning on buying 2 Radeon HD 4770s and I'm wondering which motherboard(~150 possibly?) would work well/best with them.

Also, I wanted to know if the performance lost between pci-e x16 and x8 is significant enough to go for dual pci-e 2.0 x16 slots on a mobo.

^ +1, but anyway, no the performance loss between Dual X16 and X16 + X8 is not significant, maybe a few fps.

+1 to both + monitor resolution (at least 1650*1080 otherwise no sense)

being you I would go for 4890, price is pretty much same, no possible CF related problems and you have still chance to go CF when needed in future

The 4770 looks really good on paper, but if you play graphics intensive games the card/cards will tank. Take a look at FarCry2 bench marks with this card. Games are getting tougher on cards as time goes on. If this is for "fun" and not for long term try them out, otherwise go for higher end products with at least a gig of memory.

I know about the res. There are other links if you care to look. These little cards aren't bad but I couldn't get them to work to my expectations and I wouldn't buy them this close to the new hardware ( DX11 ) coming out.... not to mention new games. You think they won't be more demanding that the ones already out ? Put 1gig of memory on them and I might think about it...bleh! I doubt a whole lot that these cards don't spit and sputter on some of these games too. Buy me a pair and I'll let you know.

When it comes to HD gaming you have to adapt your needs to the hardware you have. Means, if you're using a 30" monitor and play games at resolutions higher than 2000 with max eye candy, then sure, you should buy another card. That's why there is high end versions.

Gamers using 22" or 20" monitors playing at 1650 with max eye candy don't need more than two 4770's to suit their needs. Unless you're an fps freak of course ...

even then... two hd 4770's are hard to beat
