I want to swap my dual-core pentium e2200 for an intel core 2 quad 2.66Ghz processor

Would this work?

The socket is the same but I don't understand if the chipset has anything to do with this.

You need to offer more information about your system. Is it an OEM (Dell, Gateway, etc.) or a custom/home build? If the former, what make/model, if the latter, what motherboard make/model?
