So, I recently finished building my first computer. I have read many reviews on temperature regulation and monitoring on the internet and so imediatly after getting my OS up I went searching for programs such as speed fan and prime95 to see how the temperature/stability of my new build was doing. Much to my dismay, it seemed like my new system was running a little hot.
My build was:
-Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 Wolfdale 2.8GHz
-ASUS P5N-D LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 750i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard
-EVGA GeForce 8800GTS (G92) 512MB 256-bit GDDR3
-G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
-Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5
-NZXT Apollo Black SECC Steel Chassis ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
-APEVIA ICEBERG ATX 680W ATX12V / EPS12V
I was getting temperature readings around 56c idling and around 65c at load. I have read that this is still in the "safe" temp range for this cpu, but I planned on OCing this build and the current temps did not leave much room for this. I had heard of many people being able to OC on stock cooling but I decided to invest in some better cooling to see if it would make a big enough difference.
I purchased:
-Arctic Silver 5
-ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro
-Scythe 120mm "Slipstream" Case Fan
I currently have the case fan in the front pulling fresh air in, a rear case fan pulling heat out, the arctic freezer on my cpu pointing the exiting heat directly out the rear case fan, and cleaned off the stock thermal compound and smeared on a fresh layer of arctic silver 5.
After this cooling upgrade, I thought i would see some drastic changes, however, I am not seeing much of a change at all. I have read reviews about feeling your heat sink to see if it is hot to make sure it is making good contact with the cpu and it feels warm when the cpu heats up but never "hot".
One other quick thing that seems concerning. When i run prime95, the temperature that reeds temp1 in speedfan skyrockets. The core temps creap up to around 50c but the temp1 hits 80c literally within 2 seconds of prime95 runnning and 90c within 5 seconds. I have not let it run past a few seconds for fear of damage to my hardware.
If anyone has any helpful advice or any idea what I could be doing wrong that would be much appreciated. Thanks all for your time.

Did you clean off both contact surfaces before reapplying thermal paste?
yes, both surfaces were thoroughly cleaned with gunk remover as well as isopropoline alcohol 99%. I also read many forums on applying the new thermal paste and mounting it so I believe that it is making proper contact. Thanks for the reply though any other advice would be welcomed

Sorry for the late response.
After looking at the AC Freezer 7, it looks like it uses the the "push pin" design (which is a blessing and a curse depending on who you ask). Are you completely certain that you installed it properly? I suggest removing the motherboard to check that the push pins were installed properly and remounting it if needed.
