Okay. I finally get my i7-920. So I showed it to my friend and he said he want one but he still insisted to get a i7-965. His question is which one is best memory and motherboard should comes with that? I told him to get P6t Deluxe I'm not sure if it supports 2000Mhz. Thanks.

I wasn't able to get any further than my 1600mhz on my P6T deluxe, however I have an i7 920, not sure if that would make any difference. Why did he insist on getting the 965, seems a considerably large waste of money in my opinion.

A) You can easily find this information at the Asus site.

B) It's hard to find a need for more than 1333MHz. It will provide no benefit in a game. Maybe if you had all 8 hyperthreads maxed out with a comprssion or transcoding program you'd max out the memory but otherwise not.

Believe me or not I have been trying to convince him. I actually saw this Dominator GT and 2000 Mhz Memory

I told him what I went through about deciding to get a 920 or 965 but I think that is what he wants. So I'm really trying to help him out.


About the Asus P6t Deluxe, it actually says it supports 2000 Mhz but has a "(O.C.)" on it. Which I'm not sure if it actually supports the memory.

Can anyone explain what is a CAS Timings? I've Wiki-ed it but doesn't make sense to me about thw 9-9-9-24 which one is better? the one with equal numbers or the 7-8-7-20. Thanks.

To oversimplify (because I'm feeling somewhat lazy), the lower ("tighter" ) the timings are theoretically better. RAM with 7-8-7-20 timings are theoretically better than the same speed RAM with 9-9-9-24 timings.

How much perceptible performance one sees is debatable, so you may not want to spend a noteworthy difference in $$ on the tighter-timed RAM.
