I have a Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P mobo with a Realtek ALC889A onboard card (with SPDIF out) running on Windows 7 Rc 7100. For my speakers i have a Yamaha HTR-6030 5.1 home theater system. I'm using SPDIF as my main audio source for my PC and its works just fine but i only get 2.1 instead of 5.1. I don't think it's on my receiver end because i can plug my 360 in and it works with 5.1 with out having to touch anything on my receiver. Is there some kind of setting in windows for setting up 5.1?
and yes right now I'm only getting stereo as well. Just to clarify, you are using the receiver to decode to 5.1? I believe I've read elsewhere that the Realtek card won't encode 5.1 to SPDIF-out, only to the analog-out (the 3 analog jacks in back). Not sure how to verify that.
