how do i read what amount a gigabit is. if something saids 5.75 gigabits is it 75 gigabits or 5

Oh my, this is like 1st grade math. Think of it as money.

$5 + 75 cents = $5.75 -----75 cents is 3 quarters (3/4)

3/4 (three quarters) is .75 dollar or 75 cents.

Some countries use "," instead of "." as the decimal separator, so this kind of misunderstanding may not be quite as silly as you'd expect.
