:hello: Okay guys I am new to OCing and I need some help, here are my specs for my first rig

AMD Phenom II 550 BE 3.1 Ghz (OC to 3.3 scared to go higher, want to know if its okay to  )
Asus M3n78-VM
1x Western Digital Caviar Blue 320 GB SATA II
1x Seagate Barricuda 160 GB
Antec Performance Cooler (this thing is freakin HUGE!!)
3x 120mm Cooler master Red
1x 120mm Antec Blue fan
2 GB OCZ fatality (1x 1024) ( I have a third stick)
5-5-5-15-22T-6T ( I added 300mV to get 2.1v)
XFX ATI HD Radeon 4650 1 GDDR2
Thermaltake Soprano RS Case
Diablotek 650watt PSU
Windows 7 x64

Well when I install a third stick in the system is a little shacky and when I play Resident Evil 5 I get a BSOD after 10 mins, my Explorer crashes and It locks up. I ran memetest WITH ALL 3 STICKS and I go 136 Errors. I tested each stick seperatly and they passed but with all 3 it failed. My MB suypports 333, 400, and 533. I bought these sticks for 533mhz use But I read alot of topics where some say 3GB of 667 is better then 2GB of 1066??? With my specs and my my use of Games, Cropping movies and Some Business use should I go with 3BG of 667 or 2Gb of 1066?? I heard that in order to be stable I am supposed to have them paired either by 2 or 4 in order to be stable is this true? and if so should I get some good 800mhz instead??? cause when I set my RAM at 800mhz my rig WONT post  . Please help me out before I do a no-no and fry my MB or worse..... :ouch:

Thanks....

Edgardo

Im lost..... anyways use 3 GB of 667Mhz if it runs stable. Your OS is RAM hungry so the more ram the better.

If you have 2 sticks of OCZ for a total of 2GB then I would suggest you get 2 more sticks for a total of 4Gb and run them at 800 or 1066Mhz.

I'd be leaving the third stick out myself. Only dropping back to 667 IF you start getting disk swapping virtual memory problems (its very obvious when this happens).

I run Windows 7 on 2Gb (2 x 1Gb @ 1066Mhz) and haven't had an issue with disk swapping due to low memory, it's much more efficent than Vista was.

But yeah the best solution is to buy 2 more sticks, or better yet just buy 2 x 2Gb sticks and remove all the old RAM.

Thank you, I was thinking the same thing. I should just get some good 800Mhz sticks. I wanted to get 2 of 2x2GB But from what I hear when I OC EPP Ram It only works in Single channel and I like Dual munch better :??: I set them to 800Mhz and from what I noticed is not a BIG performance boost. :heink:

Yeah 667 to 800 isn't a big boost, especially if the CAS timings are higher. I thought you were running 1066 (you mentioned it in your first post).

You should be able to run 2 x 2Gb without issue in dual channel as far as I knew?

I was running at 1066 sorry for that confusing, when I set my settings to auto is shows at 667. I set the timings and voltage so it can run at 800 now and it is stable with all three sticks, but I will definitely get some 2x 2GB.
