Minimizing IE8 disappears?!

I have a new problem that just started to happen. If I am in IE8 (Win XP) and minimize my window, it drops to the task bar for a second, and then disappears and an e appears to the right in the notification area. This never previously happened. I ran spybot, malwarebytes, and a virus scan to no avail. I reset my notification settings to default and still the same thing is happening. If any one knows how to stop this, I would appreciate it. I tried Google but came up empty.

You can try right-clicking the taskbar and click "Toolbars."

By default, nothing is checked but yours may be different.

You can put almost anything in the taskbar, even all your desktop shortcuts.

You may have IE8 going there by a past clicking accident.

Just something to check, someone else may have a direct cure.
