Hello All,
I have a new DirectTv system with the new dish that includes a
multiswitch built-in.
The original installation had two lines lines from the dish. One line
runs to a bedroom, and the other line runs to the living room.
Last XMas we bought a Tivo DVR and placed it in the living room. We
want to make use of the "watch one while recording another" feature.
But to do this we'd need a 2nd input to the Tivo.
From what I've read, I'm pretty sure that I can put a multi switch
above the Tivo unit to make "1-into-2" and have two inputs for the
Tivo.
However, I'm confused as to whether I need a "simple" multiswitch (the
inexpensive ones) or a "cascading" multiswitch (the more expensive
ones), since the receiver has a multiswitch in it already.
The DirectTV support people told me that a "simple" multiswitch would
work. But I'm doubtful.

A multiswitch will solve your problem. Don't quite get the "simple" or
"cascading" terminology. A multiswitch is a multiswitch,.... they come 2x4,
3x4, 5x8 etc. (Inputs/Outputs)(both powered and unpowered). Don't confuse a
multiswitch with a diplexor.
