Im building a gaming rig and im not sure which of these cards will be better for gaming at 1920 1200 res. Its either the gtx 295, 285 2 gig, or 2 gtx 275s. I know the 2 gtx 275s beat the 295 but how much more power does it consume and is it worth the extra power consumption, also how mcuh better/worse is the 295 to the 285 2g?
My systems other specs will be...

i7 920
6g corsair ram
22in 1920 1200 monitor
not sure what motherboard yet

Thanks!

The GTX 285 is a little overpriced if you ask me.

For SLI GTX275 vs GTX295 Tom has an entire article on the subject.

They conclude (with power consumption in perspective) that 2 SLI GTX 275 is better overall compared to 1 GTX 295. If your looking into Quad-GPU solutions in the future go with the GTX 295... but you probably won't benefit (much) from it any time soon. I say go with 2x GTX 275 in SLI.

I would go for classic 285 1Gb and later on when prices go down grab another GTX 285 and SLI it...mobo being you Asus P6T deluxe

ok, in the review it says that the practicality of the gtx 295 might outweigh the 2 gtx 275s, what do they mean by that? Oh and also im going to use a thermaltake 9 chassis for the rig, is it good for the airflow or no?

is the performance noticeably better with the 2g version of the gtx 285? Also, if a was playing crysis on Vhigh settings, no AA, 1920 1200 res, would the frame rates of the gtx 285 be close to the 2 gtx 275s and the 1 gtz 295?

I don`t know what you mean...SLI GTX 275 seems to be faster (test proved it already) but disadvantage is that you occupy two slots at your mobo and SLI 275 is more power hungry...easy like this
GTX 285 2Gb will give you couple of fps more at high res and very high AA/AF feature but nothing significant...google it here I have found one benchmark comparing GTX 285 2gb with GTX 285 1gb
http://en.expreview.com/2009/03/16 [...] #more-2714
as you see no crysis improvement

and no GTX 285 can not match SLI GTX 275 or one GTX 295 but you can still SLI it when you need more and SLI GTX 285 beats SLI GTX 275 and one GTX 295

to the case..do you mean thermaltake m9?....pretty much average, nothing special. if you are going to build i7 rig with SLI/CF GPUs and probably going to overclock everything...hmmm I would go for something better (antec 1200, CM haf 932 - I have this one and it´s perfect)
