Should I be concerned about these temperatures?

I'm new to overclocking, and have managed to get my Intel Q9450 to 3.2Ghz.

Idle, I get a temperature of 26 Celsius, with an approximate ambient temperature of 22.5 Celsius. However, when I look at SpeedFan, it looks like my cores are 50-55 Celsius while idle.


Here's a picture of what's going on....

Is this amount of variation normal?

Ok, seems a little high for be idle.

What cooler do you have?

I think it's the Zalman CNPS7700-AlCu LED, or one along those lines.

How much time has the cooler installed?

I installed it about 2 years ago.

Maybe I didn't put the thermal paste on correctly. I was running a little slow on grease.

Buy some AS5, remove the cooler and remove the old thermal paste with isopropyl alhocol and a coffee filter.

Apply the new TIM and let me know the results, you can use the 1st link in my sig to find a nice article about the best way to apply the TIM on your rig.

I applied the new TIM and all the cores went up by 2 or 3 degrees. lol

And, I actually restored the everything back to it's stock settings too!
