hey all
this is a pretty simple question i think i have a GA-965P-DS3 (rev. 2.0) motherboard by Gigabyte.
i wanted to know if it supports PCIe 2 ?
also is PCIe 2 a change of hardware ? i mean, i assume i cannot upgrade software/bios etc to get PCIe 2 if my mb doesnt support it , right??

That board is PCI Express version 1. All PCI Express versions are compatable so you dont have to worry about different hardware. Also I dont think even the highest end cards would be slowed by running on your board. If you are going to have a bottleneck with this board its likely going to be CPU.
I had a Rev.3.3 of that board with an E-6600 in it and was very happy with it. I sold it to a friend and its still running strong.

was thinkin about slowly upgrading different parts...
one of them is the grphx card i have an oldy 8800 and am thinkin of getting the radeon HD5850 which is a pcie - 2 card...
wouldnt it be slowed down by the mb?
Probably not but you might be getting close to where 2.0 might matter more when you talk about upgrading to top tier.
PCI Express is like SATA .....GFX cards and HDDs are not using anywhere near what the standard is. New versions are basically futureproofing.
