Coaxial SPDIF to Optical Toslink

I have the Diamond XS71 7.1 sound card, which I just bought not long ago for a HTPC build, it comes with two digital coax SPDIF input/output. At the computer parts store here, they sell the digital coax to toslink optical converter. Does this work with any sound card and will it actually work?
