I'm looking to upgrade my GPU in my system to the Nvidia gtx 260. I'm currently running an 8800GT with no problems. I'd just like some better frame rates and would like to run games a bit smoother. I also get high load temps with my GT (some attributed to case cooling). I right now have a Thermaltake Purepower 500w PSU. This has dual 12v rails I know, but I dont think the amperage is enough for the 260 which needs 36 amps. Here are the specs on my PSU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153052. If I'm reading it right the combined amps on the 12v rails doesn't support the required 36 amps for the 260. It says +3.3V@22A,+5V@32A,+12V1@14A,12V2@15A
-12V@0.3A,+5VSB@2A Is this right? I'd like to keep this PSU but will upgrade if needed. Let me know if this is enough.

It doesn't need 36 amps. According to this review, a gtx 260 uses only about 16 amps and 192 watts. To demonstrate how absurd the box requirements are, not even SLI gtx 260 uses 36 amps.

Unfortunately, despite this, you still need a new PSU. Your link is broken, but I found the PSU on Thermaltake's website. Your PSU only has one 6-pin PCI-E connector, and the gtx 260 needs two 6-pin PCI-E connectors. While you could get a 4-pin molex -> 6-pin PCI-E converter, it's heavily discouraged as this would put extra stress on rails that were not meant for that kind of power draw.

A good quality, mid/upper range PSU (such as this Corsair 650w for a single GPU, or this Corsair 750w if you were thinking of going SLI at some point) would be a perfect fit for you.

Thank you very much for your input. I actually just picked up the Corsair 750w supply that you recommended. I'm probably going to wait a little bit now before I buy the new video card. I heard Nvidia is coming out with new cards and prices may drop in june.
