Im trying to decide between the two and i cant decide. 4770 runs at 750 core and had gddr5 mem but only 640 stream processors. 4850 only runs at 625-640 stock and has gddr3 but its got 800 stream processors. and to top it off the 4850 can be had for 15 bucks cheaper. so the question is wtf do i get?

to toss a wrench in the gears what about after ocing? ive seen a 4770 get to 970 core with a volt mod. i dont know what is reasonable to expect from a 4850. im still leaning to the 4850 but havent decided yet.

I did 680 core and 11025 memory with out any problem at all. Even temps did not change. I do not know past that. Do a google search and see what other have reported for such clocks.

The 4770 is the newer card and as has been said runs with less heat and power usage. I know this always gets said but thats because its true and holds for all cards, but the drivers will improve for the 4770 and the 4850 will end up being at best equal to the 4770 in performance. I have a 4770 and the drivers at the minuite are really bad but the new 9.5 drivers will be out on monday and im expecting good things. A lot of reviews have the 4770 trading blows with the 4850 in some games at the moment so i really see it only as a cost issue. Cant see the 4850 being that much cheaper than the 4770 unless they raise the price of the 4770 though.

Well i guess the pricing is probably differant. Im in the UK and we can get the 4770 for £85 and a 4850 is nearer £100. Thats just one site i looked up and i guess shoping around could see some differances. As you can see at those prices the 4770 is a no brainer for us in the UK
