All,

DDR2 memory for the Intel G45 Chipset is being offered in 8GB Kits of four matched 2GB sticks at almost twice the price of two 4GB Kits. Is this really necessary?

I can understand the need for matching memory timing between channels, but between banks as well? What performance increase can I expect if I use one 8GB Kit instead of two 4GB Kits?

Two 4 GB kits ordered at the same time (assuming that they are from the same batch) will work just as well.
