I have sapphire 4890 and i get strange noise ( other than blowing, like "Prrr Prrr Prrr Prrr" ) i tried to change fan speed manually, i don't here that sound under %25 speed.

I also discovered that, if i hold the case horizontal, it makes less noise when compared to the vertical.

Contact your supplier or Sapphire direct, it could be a faulty fan and the last thing a HD4870 needs it to have its fan stop working.
