How come in WMP 10 on my ipaq, when I play a song, it says track 1 or track
2, when on the desktop it shows up with an actual name (the name of the
song)? It's annoying because I'd like to see the title.

I don't know why does it happen, but I know how to solve it. You have to edit
the file from your desktop before you transfer it to your pocket pc.
If you use Windows Media on your desktop:
1. Go to the library and make sure the song you want is there.
2. On the Title column, right click on your song file and click edit. Type
the name of the song. Do this for Artist, Album and Genre, if you want to.
3. Transfer the file to you pocket pc, it should have the filename when it
plays.
If you use Winamp on your desktop
(I use Winamp2, so I don't know how the newer versions work)
(This doesn't work for .wma files)
1. Play the song.
2. Open the playlist editor from your main window.
3. Right click on the song you want to edit and click file info.
4. Tick either the ID3v1 or ID3v2, or both if you want to and fill in the
columns.
5. Click on Update and transfer the file to your pocket pc. It should have
the title when you playback using WMP 10.
I suggest using the winamp method to do this, it is much easier (don't have
to right click on every specification like title, artist, album) Hope it
works.

Thank you! I ended up playing all the files in WMP 10 on the desktop, then
right clicking each one, choosing edit, and renaming them to what the file
name said it was.

It's infuriating, I know. Being a bit old skool, I'm very fussy about
directory names and filenames for my music collection. I use folder name of
'artist - album', and filename of 'track number - track title'. However, as
the files are from numerous sources, many don't have ID3 tags.
Unfortunately, it seems when it comes to WMP, and especially WMP on Pocket
PC, you either do it the way MS designed it, or take a hike.
Note to any MS WMP PPC developers reading this. I loath WMP library - there
I said it. Some of us are organised enough with our files not to need it.
p.s. I hat iTunes just as much!
I may have to get into this millenium and realise that organising stuff
manually will soon be a thing of the past (Google Desktop etc), so I'm
adding ID3 tags. Check out 'ID3-TagIT' - it's free and has lots of cool
options for converting filenames to ID3 tags.
