Should I upgrade my system?

I built the following system last year:

E8400 CPU
4 GB DDR2 800 G.Skill Ram
EVGA 8800GT G92 512MB Video Card w/ dual slot cooler
Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3L Motherboard
WD6400AAKS 640GB Hard Drive
Samsung SH-S203B DVD/CD Drive
Antec 900 Case
Corsair HX520 Power Supply
Aftermarket CPU cooler
LG W2242TQ 22" Monitor

I play Everquest and surf the web mostly.

I might play Everquest 2 or WoW in the future, but no Crisis or shooter games.

My question is, is there anything in my system you would upgrade or that is worth upgrading playing EQ, EQ2, or WoW to increase performance or game playability?

I might mildy OC the system as well.

Any comments/suggestions would be appreciated.

More about should upgrade system
  1. I think your PC is just fine for what you're doing. No need for upgrades IMO. Are you unhappy with its performance in Everquest right now?
  2. EQ seems to run pretty good. I get some weird graphics glitches sometimes with the 8800GT that I never got on my old computer with a 7600GT. Was sorta thinking of getting a 4850 or 4870 video card, but do not wanna spend the $$$ if is is not an upgrade in either performance or eye candy for what I use it for.
  3. The 4850 is a very small upgrade from 8800GT (it's just a bit faster than the 9800GTX+). It's not worth upgrading IMO because they're too close.

The 4870 is a noticeable upgrade, on the other hand. It will offer extra eye candy in future Blizzard games (Diablo 3 , Starcraft 2) because it supports Havok physics. I don't know if WoW cares though, not the current release anyway.
  4. I think wow only covers 512mb of your video card.

Everquest and EQ2 ( old games i played on an old Athlon ) + 6200 oc'd geforce hah.

You should see the new MMO's coming out..

Check them out on Youtube : Tera or Terra - they took Lineage 3's engine, maps and some other things to do with building the game.

Lineage 3 will be out 2011

Also, it's more of a Linux and PS3 game but, Dark & Soul.

Anyways, if its going to be any upgrade. I'd look at the 4870 but, that might put you in a spot to have to upgrade the PSU aswell.
  5. No worries there. The 520HX can handle a HD 4870, especially with a system like that (dual-core, a single HDD). The Sapphire recommendation is "at least 500W". The typical PSU claiming 500W offers 36A or less on the 12V. The 520HX has 40A.
