Hello

I am in need of a small server that can run Windows 2008 server. It will host some mail and web and a few other things. It should be a dual core and have 4gb ram. I would like it to be small and it shouldnt make to much noise.

I have been thikning about going with a Intel Core 2 Due or one of the new i7. Any ideas on what mainboard, cabinet etc?

Best regards
Mads

You don't need a very powerful system for what you'll run. A Core 2 Duo E8400 should meet your requirements. Don't buy a CPU that doesn't support VT as it could become important if you ever need to run VMs.

I built a couple systems using Antec cases and the quietest one that I have is the Antec Sonata Plus 550. That case is much quieter than the Sonata III (I have a couple of those as well). I have an E8400 with the stock cooler on an Asus P5Q Deluxe and the rear fan is set to low.
