OK, so Ive taken the plunge and built my first computer... so far so good. Until now, Ive tried to install XP64 os and it will not recognize the HD during start up. It is recognized in the BIOS. its a WD black 1TB. I have the sata configured to IDE and the boot order 1 cdrom 2 HDD. I had no luck getting the thing to boot. I configured the SATA to AHCI, and it booted, but it said i didnt have a HD. I understand I need drivers to get this to work, ive read over several threads on this board which have been very informative but i cant solve my problem. how to i get drivers without an OS?

Please help!

You don't want it as a AHCI most likely, certainly if it's not showing the drive.

Need to know the model number and specifics of your motherboard.

One thing to start with is to reset the CMOS to defaults, Optimal defaults if that's a choice.
