no info: USB 3.0 isn't in any chipsets yet, so you'll have to wait for a "surprise" board that adds a USB 3.0 controller.

Yes, ASRock is among the companies sending out e-flyers about its USB 3.0 expansion card release.

Supposed to be available next month:

"Taiwanese manufacturer Gigabyte is hard at work on an updated version of the GA-P55-UD4 P55-powered motherboard which will feature both SATA 6.0 Gbps and USB 3.0 ports."

Thanks dcproulx and Jack - Been on the fence, guess I'll wait. Looks like Sata 6 and USB are initially going to be supported by 3rd party chipsets thus limiting the Nr of ports.

Yeah, I'm waiting for that too. Not that I really need a new system, but my daughter does, so the old hand me down chain must move soon!

Drat!!! http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=16588

"Those looking forward to the wide rollout of USB 3.0 will be saddened to hear that the specification has been dealt a setback. This summer, expectations were that USB 3.0 devices and computers supporting USB 3.0 would be available before 2010.

A source at a top-tier computer maker has confirmed to EETimes that USB 3.0 support in key Intel chipsets has been postponed until 2011. Support for USB 3.0 was expected to show up in early 2010 for Intel chipsets. The same top-tier PC maker source also told EETimes that wireless USB was effectively dead. Rather than moving to wireless USB, which has had many supporting startups and interest groups close up shop, the industry buzz is now focusing on 60 GHz technology."

Like I said...

But what else did you expect? The P55 "chipset" has no USB 3.0 or SATA 6.0 Gb/s, and Intel's next "platform" is nothing other than an integrated-graphics version of the LGA-1156 we already have.

Did you expect Intel to really break out new high-end technologies for the integrated-graphics version of a platform that doesn't already support it? Since when does the integrated-graphics crowd get high-end features first?

Well, I would imagine USB is pretty well known to that group, being something that gets attached to a lot. They know it as "Slow" and haven't heard of eSATA. So it might become a publicity thing to help sell more PC's, why wouldn't Intel want a piece of that? And that group has grown a lot lately so isn't there a lot more moola to be made there than with the enthusiast crowd? Not to mention all the new upgraded devices that will be sold.

Anyhow, I just wish it was coming out sooner, I guess I'll just have to build on a MB like the Gigabyte. By 2011 I'll be ready for another one!

Yes, it's unfortunate that these developments were finished long after Intel had made its design decisions for its current batch of products.
