My boot takes like 2 minutes now. My computer used to boot in 30 seconds. Everything goes quick until it gets to "detecting USB mass storage devices" and that is where the hang up happens. it sits trying to detect one. I have no mass storage devices hooked up. I turned off the printer, and unplugged my game controllers and stuff to eliminate those as possibilities.
You could deactivate all your Usb ports in the Bios, or in Win's Peripheral Manager provided you've Win. This should tell you more.
And have you already reinstalled the drivers? What OS do you have: did these drivers come with Xp for instance? In such a case, you could try to suppress the Usb ports and let Xp reinstall the drivers.
If at some time you deduce your Usb ports hardware is dead, just deactivate it and add a Usb card in a Pci slot.
ok, finally worked this out. I don't know why the problem didn't isolate when i powered off my printer, but after i unplugged the USB cord to the printer the boot is back to normal time. This must have all started when i put a flashdrive into my printer (it has a USB port as well as SD card readers, etc.) the other day. What a nightmare.
Thank you for the help in this matter.
