I did a disk defrag and when I turned on my laptop I am completely locked out. At the login screen, it tells me, cannot find laptop domain. I was told my hard drive is gone. Is there anything I can do to get back on my laptop? I have Windows XP and an intermediate user. Help me please! TY

Another user: I found the answer late last night. The node type (as seen with IPCONFIG) was
set to 'peer-to-peer'. How that happened is beyond me.

run ipconfig /all from command prompt to see if your node is set to peer to peer, as his was.

Anyhow, I found the
answer here:http://www.chicagotech.net/Networking/nodetypeissue1.htm

(Deleted the specified registry key.)

Force a restore point before making any registry changes

Then you most likely need a Windows Install CD to boot from after
getting into setup for BIOS (usually F2) during boot to configure the CD as the first boot device. (That may already be set in bios).

Then do a Repair Install to fix system files.
Remove the CD and reboot.

What are your computer mfg and model, and have you gone to their site for support ?
