I hopefully will be building a new system here in the next few weeks. My question is should i go for a 1920x1200 monitor-

or a 1920x1080 monitor-

not necessarily these two specific monitors, but i do think that I want something 24 in. or less. I like the price points on these monitors as well.

This monitor will be used for schoolwork and gaming. Yes I will have a GPU that can handle these resolutions (HD 4890 or equivalent). I don't really care too much about the internet scrolling factor. I really want to focus the question on which is better for gaming/watching movies or videos...

Also for some reason this thread is forcing me to select a sub-category and it normally doesn't do that...

I would really appreciate any help or advice. Thanks guys.

I'd go for the 1920x1200 monitor, but that's just me. If they are about the same price the 1920x1200 monitor would obviously be better, since you can run the resolution at 1080p anyways. But if you have to pay a large amount just for the 1920x1200 i wouldn't buy it.

that sounds about right. will i have any resolution problems when trying to watch a blu-ray movie on a 1920x1200 monitor? Or will there just be bigger black bars on top and bottom?

No problems at all - just the black bars.

No there won't be any problems running a Blu-ray movie on a 1920x1200 resolution.

Alright thanks guys. That 1920x1200 looks pretty cool, but i will just wait to see what kind of deals there are when it's time to purchase parts.
