I'm planning on a new gaming build soon using an AMD CPU. On my 6 year old PC I have an Intel(R) PRO/1000 MT Desktop Adapter and Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection. I have no immediate plans for a network setup, just a single PC directly connected to the modem. Using Windows Vista 64 and/or Windows 7 (maybe Windows 7 RC).

Am I good to go with the Intel(R) PRO/1000 MT Desktop Adapter? Should I upgrade? If so, to what?

No need. Any mobo you buy will have at least one built in gigabit ethernet port, often two.
