The goal is to build a small desktop machine to sit in my kitchen as a browser/media player. I have been looking into the ITX format and was wondering what people had to say about it? The mobo that interested me was the:

ZOTAC GF9300-D-E LGA 775 NVIDIA GeForce 9300 HDMI Mini ITX Intel Motherboard. (The HDMI, the PCI-E x16 are both key draws.)

I will be replacing my CPU on my standard desktop so the E8400 would see its way into the ITX, as well as a bluray player, and then possibly a 4850 or a 9800gt. However, i believe with these specs i am going to be running into a serious power consumption issue, not to mention cooling.

If anyone has any opinions on this it would be appreciated.

Keep in mind i know this is not optimal for a performance computer, but size is a key factor for its function while still retaining a modicum of playability for all purpose use, video playing, and light gaming.

Current Build idea

MOBO - ZOTAC GF9300-D-E LGA 775 NVIDIA GeForce 9300 HDMI Mini ITX
CPU - Intell E8400
GPU - ASUS EN9500GT TOP/DI/512M GeForce 9500 GT 512MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16
Memory - 4gb Ram
PSU - ???
Optical - Blue Ray (need suggestions)

Thanks!

The onboard 9300GS is more than capable of doing blu ray with an E8400 processor.

IMO, mITX is really just video playing, web surfing, maybe some office apps. Gaming should go with mATX build.

Typical mITX cases have only 130W - 180W PSU, to power up a discrete GPU might be pushing it. With a mATX build, cases can hold PSU that are strong enough for discrete GPU.

Thanks for the info. I have found 300w PSU, and i believe there are a couple cases that come with them... which may still be lacking for the GPU. When i said gaming i meant NES SNES roms really low end stuff. Which probably do not require the discrete GPU anyways.
